Hi folks,
We arrived home from the hospital on Wednesday night with a amazing wee baby in tow! After near-unanimous guesses that the fetus would be a boy, Molly is a girl! Can you believe that the hospital actually let us keep her? Do they have any idea how little we know about babies?! The fools!
As Michael kindly wrote, Molly was born on Tuesday, February 28 at 14:14. At 3800g and 51.5 cm, she was sporting an impressively large head (much to her mother's chagrin). The labour was intense, and ended with an assisted forceps delivery at the hospital. Sarah is healing well, and we are now spending our days (and nights) practicing the not-so-gentle art of breastfeeding. As for names, we are flirting with different full names (we have 30 days to register her; why rush such a big decision?) However, the first name of Molly is a definite go.
Thanks very much to everyone for all the calls and emails; we really appreciate everyone's support, enthusiasm and love! I hope to get around to replying soon. Though Sarah did all the hard work, the birth process was a real team effort. Thoughout the labour, we were supported by almost every student and registered midwife at Commercial Drive Midwives, and the staff and Children's and Women's Heath Centre were excellent. Our friends, Erin and Sheila, kept the midwives and I fed and watered; Erin stayed up with us for a day and a half to photograph the process through to the end. She and Michael also kept the chain of communications open with the outside world.
Thanks very much, and we look forward to introducing Molly to everyone in person!
love,
andrea

What a beautiful, beautiful baby. Looks grumpy, though. :-)
Aww...just like her Uncle Dale!
One of the most beautiful newborns I've ever seen! Welcome, Molly!
